Owen Ward is a Liverpool-based director who traded a career in retail for independent filmmaking in 2023. Growing up with working-class roots, Owen’s approach to the craft is defined by a DIY work ethic and a focus on authentic, unfiltered storytelling.
After building a following through a series of comedy sketches with Liverpool actor and comedian John May, the duo co-founded Progress Pictures to produce their own slate of original work. Their first major collaboration, The Two of Us, marked Owen’s directorial debut. The film made an immediate impact on the circuit, premiering at the Raindance Film Festival 2025 and earning a nomination for Best Feature Documentary.
While continuing its festival run, the film has struck a powerful chord at home, resulting in a series of sold-out screenings across Liverpool. For Owen, the film’s success is measured by how deeply it has resonated with local audiences and touched the hearts of the community.
